The International Day of Midwives, commemorated annually on May 5, was celebrated in Hargeisa with a well-attended event organized by the Somaliland Nursing and Midwives Association.

The celebration brought together midwives from across Somaliland, nurses from various institutions and universities, teachers, students from midwifery colleges, and members of Somaliland’s Council of Ministers.

During the event, speakers highlighted the crucial role midwives play in improving maternal and child health services, particularly in Somaliland, where they remain essential to community healthcare and safe childbirth services.

Participants also emphasized the importance of supporting and strengthening the midwifery profession through education, training, and improved healthcare resources.
