Community Awareness Raising

Community Awareness Raising

Community awareness raising is a vital strategy used by SLNMA and partners to educate and
engage communities on key health and social issues, aiming to change attitudes, behaviors, and
norms for better public health and social justice.

Key Focus Areas:

  • Health Education: Topics include maternal/child health, reproductive health, GBV,
    FGM, and more.
  • Behavior Change: Encouraging positive health behaviors like skilled birth attendance,
    family planning, and GBV reporting.
  • Empowerment: Strengthening women and youth to advocate for their health rights and
    access services.
  • Engagement of Leaders: Collaborating with religious leaders, elders, and influencers to
    spread key messages.

Methods Used:

  • Community meetings and forums
  • Radio and social media campaigns
  • School-based education sessions
  • Distribution of flyers and posters
  • Interactive workshops and training sessions

Impact:

  • Increased awareness and knowledge on critical health issues
  • Reduced stigma around sensitive topics such as GBV and FGM
  • Higher use of health services including maternal care and family planning
  • Stronger community support for health policies and interventions
